About Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT)

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), formerly West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT), is a State University located in Kolkata, India, Founded in 2000 by the Government of West Bengal. MAKAUT provides facilities for pursuit of degree and advanced-level courses in engineering, management and other professional areas through affiliated institutions and in-house departments. The campus is currently located at Haringhata, Nadia (West Bengal).

MAKAUT is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC). MAKAUT has been awarded B++ with CGPA of 2.87 by the NAAC on its first visit. MAKAUT ranked 165 among engineering colleges in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2019.

The University has introduced new courses in emerging areas to in tune with the unfolding scenario in higher education in the country.

The University is steadfast in its twin objectives:
a) To serve as a Centre of Excellence in teaching and research in technology and management area.
b) To provide framework of industrialization based on knowledge economy.

To realize its mission of emerging as a Centre of Excellence the University has created three Schools of Studies viz. School of Engineering & Technology (SET), School of Biotechnology & Biological Sciences (SBTBS) and School of Management and Sciences (SOMS) comprising presently of five departments viz. Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Department of Industrial Engineering & Management, Department of Biotechnology, Department of Bioinformatics and Department of Management and Sciences. The basic objective of the University shall be to organize undergraduate courses of study in Engineering and Technology, especially in emerging areas. The university now affiliates 160 institutions spread over 15 districts of the state of West Bengal. Postgraduate study is being carried out in 30 of them and research is being carried out for the grooming of scientists, engineers and technologists.

MISSION OF THE UNIVERSITY

1) To impart quality and value-based teaching & learning of international standard for solving the real-life problems.
2) To create and disseminate knowledge both nationally & internationally towards the transformations of the civilization into a knowledge-based society.
3) To institutionalize the extension and field outreach activities with a view to transform the university system into an active instrument for social change.
4) To develop liaison and collaboration with the globally recognised academic institutions in order to inject new and fresh thinking in teaching, learning and research.
5) To generate intellectually capable and imaginatively gifted professionals and successful entrepreneurs having environmental consciousness and ethics who can work as individual or in group in multi-cultural global environments for continuing significantly towards the betterment of quality of human life.

Facilities

Academic Session:

Beginning July each year it is divided into two semesters- Odd semester and Even semester. Winter vacation normally starts from last week of December upto mid-week of January and summer vacation starts from middle of June to July as inter semester break.

Library:

The Library has both e- resources and print resources. It has a total collection of 25965 books among which 10131 are e-books, 6000 (approx.) e-journals 20 print journals including 4 foreign journals. The University library is now member of E-Sodh -Sindhu (UGC Infonet) Digital Library consortia. University is getting e-journals like IEEE, Cambridge University Press, Economic & Political Weekly, ISID, JCCC, Oxford University Press, Springerlink, Taylor & Francis from the consortia. and University itself is subscribing e-journals like IEE, Elsevier, Springer Nature, ACM Digital Library, JAmerican Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Taylor and Francis, etc.

Hostel:

Well-appointed hostels with fully furnished rooms made for international students at Haringhata main campus. Rooms are quipped with all basic amenities. The hostels are given good protection by security agencies and police booth in the university.

Food:

Healthy and hygienic food is available at the students dining hall. All kinds of fruits and vegetables as well as dairy products are available. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and all kinds of snacks are available at very reasonable cost.
